I can’t remove the string from my grover tuners, there is a locking mecanism in place. Anyone know what to do?

I have been playing guitar for about a year, and I recently upgraded from my squier to a nice washburn hollowbody. I really love the guitar, but it has unusual tuners that seem to lock the string in place. I have seen locking tuners before, and these are not locking tuners (I think, they don’t have that locking knob on the bottom and they look normal). Please answer, I really want to keep playing tonight but I already cut the strings.

Could be a grover self locking tuner, they have a little piston that raises as you tighten the string, try winding it backwards and see if it releases the string.
