Size Blueburst
is this a good guitar to buy?
http://www.thomann.de/fr/harley_benton_msa_c23_blueburst.htm
it’s 44 euros.
I have never played the guitar before, so I want just a cheap guitar that will get me through learning the basics and to see if I like it or not. I’m 5’9 and 16 years old, so is this a good size and everything? Any additional info about which guitar is best is very much appreciated!
thank you!
No hon… that’s gonna be junk, unfortunately.
Here’s the thing.. you don’t have to spend a fortune… but you DO have to buy an instrument that is high enough quality to be professionally set up so it’s EASY to learn on. Otherwise, you’re going to struggle and never learn how to play. Others have given you good answers, so I’ll just supplement with this… you need a guitar that….
1) Can be set up with a low action so it’s easy to press the strings, but still not buzz. This is the number one problem for a beginner. With no calluses on your fingertips yet you’re going to have a hard enough time as it is… the LAST thing you need is for those strings to be cutting into your fingers.
2) Can be set up to be in tune, and stay in tune. This is another one of the most frustrating things for a beginner. So the bridge has to be in the right spot on the body, and the tuners have to be of decent quality.
3) Unless it’s a super-pro guitar, you should look for an adjustable truss rod… that allows you to put more or less tension on the neck as necessary as seasons change, etc. (Note – Classical guitars seldom have adjustable truss rods, but they don’t need it because the nylon strings don’t put as much pressure on the neck)
4) Classical guitars are fine – and in fact are great for beginners because the strings are easier on your fingers… but the necks are wider and fatter… that does enforce good technique, but it’s also more difficult for some new players. But you can play other types of music on them, so don’t worry about that part.
5) You can get something very decent for 100-150 euros. Look for a small boutique guitar store that caters to the professional players in your area, and make friends with them. Someone can keep an eye out for a great used instrument, and then set it up professionally for you. You’ll get a much better guitar for a lot less money and you’ll have a pal who can help you get started. I love these kinds of shops, and hate mail order and huge soulless chain stores.
