Any suggestions on a small guitar effects preamp? to connect to a laptop?

I have a huge Boss gt3 but I want seomthign more like a hand held type of guitar distortion effect processor that has a speaker simulator to connect to my laptop to record guitar, maybe one that takes batteries. ANyone have any suggestions or ideas?
Thanks. Well the only thing when using any VST plugins or distortion generated by a computer program is the latency issue, on a 1.8mhz processor there will be quite a delay wouldnt it?

you can always get a Sansamp, or one of those single effects pedals. theyre pretty handheld to me.

if that’s still too big, and youre using Windows, consider downloading a VST host program and VST effects plugins. theyre digital effects software, and the VST host allows you to apply the effects in real time instead of applying it after recording. these things are free on the internet, you just have to look for the good ones. and yes, you can set lots of parameters, including amp modeling.

just make sure though that your guitar signal is very very clean, or the distortion effects (pedal, box or software) will also amplify the noise and that is very very annoying.
