What kind of acoustic guitar is right for me?

I really like the sound of hawaiian guitar, blues guitar, country guitar, and gypsy guitars (specifically stefan hahl). I’m not able to buy a ton of guitars, so I would like a diverse one.
I would like to experiment with different genres, obviously, and music of different eras. I would play mostly folk and blues on it.
I want to try some bob dylan, johnny cash, and nick drake, but mostly write my own songs.
I’m wondering if a GUILD M20 would be good for that.
It doesn’t have to be a guitar that they played.
Would a parlor guitar be good?

The problem with you going to a store and trying everything is that they only put good strings on some of them, and besides, your just a beginner, and barely know the difference.

I would say a cheap parlor guitar is worthless. Only very expensive parlor guitars are any good. But they are great for hawaiian, blues. Slide guitar needs higher action than regular. fingerpicking and maybe blues needs a bit higher action than bluegrass. I don’t think Gypsy guitars sound any different than any other guitar – except of course the older type without sound holes – which sound too trebly in my ears.

I would suggest a dreadnaught – either a Taylor, Guild, Martin. They are all wonderful guitars if you can afford them.

Dylan, Cash and Drake I think all play dreadnaughts, or could have.

I think you should get three guitars. A dreadnaught with low action, a dreadnaught with medium strings/higher action, and a parlor with medium strings.
