How to prevent guitar string splinters?

Hello, I use rotosound strings on my electric guitar. I keep getting metal splinters and they are amazingly annoying.
I have one now and cant get it out of my finger as it is invisible, even after using a magnifying glass.

What is the best way to prevent them? Is it because my strings are about 5 months old?

Would wiping down the strings at the end of each day help?

i seriously think you should change your strings and try a different brand. i use ernie ball for electric and have never heard of or had metal in my fingers…. son as the string wears out, you are getting them as the round winding of the string is breaking therefore exposing small pieces of the string at the point where it is worn through. i think change your strings and do so more often than after 5 months.
