What kind of guitar strings should i use?

I have a Nova electric guitar, and im not sure what kind of strings to get. I just started playing electric guitar. I need to know what type and size of strings to get, and is there any way to tell what kind of strings are on it already?

Strings come in a variety of sizes and materials. The most common material is nickel wound steel, but some players prefer pure nickel or stainless steel. There are other types, but those three are the most common.

As far as size, you should probably stick off with .010′s. Those are right in the middle and are typically what guitars are strung with at the factory. Keep the package and write the date on it, then, next time you change the strings you’ll know what was on there. If you thought they were too tight, get lighter ones, if you’d like heavier strings, go up to .011′s.

The other guy who answered mentioned that he’s had the same strings for 6 months. I don’t know any players who like to keep strings on that long. I prefer the sound and feel of new strings, and change them every 2 months or less. I know other people who like the strings to wear in a bit… maybe 4 months, but by 6 months the sound has degraded considerably, so don’t let string companies convince you to pay more because the strings will last 8 months or something. They still stretch out, get dirty, and sound bad.
