Teaching Guitar: How to correct bad habits and solve the problems of their students have the guitar
Although are many ways you can help their students become better guitarists and musicians, we can consolidate most of what you do in three categories main
- Inspire and motivate students – guitar instruction is often more to inspire students guitar teaching a new scale, chord or a song.
- Teach something new "to play / practice – Most guitar teachers understand this basic concept, but often difficult to know exactly how many "new content" is too much or too little for each student of the guitar. More Teachers "Overpower" to their students are just too much material in a short period of time.
- Help to solve the problems of reproduction or musical – The best way to improve their teaching of the guitar is to understand exactly how help a student overcome any problem.
Each of these areas has its own challenges, but for most teachers of guitar is the last category (to help students solve problems guitar music) which may be more difficult to act accordingly.
When teaching guitar to solve problems and bad habits The first thing to do is be clear about the process:
A. Identify the real cause of the problem. Remember that the symptoms "problems and" causes "of issues are often different things. A problem not yet diagnosed (as a doctor misdiagnosed the problem) can aggravate things that do nothing at all.
B. Find proven solutions to overcome this problem. Yes, it seems obvious, but I guess guitar teachers often "or Trial and error learning the guitar. Surround yourself with other experienced guitar teachers. Ask for advice challenge particular, this can save you and your student much time and frustration.
C. Communicate the causes and solutions problem with your student. Again, this may seem common sense, but the fact is that most teachers are not sufficient to explain the causes and solutions students have problems, a sort of skip that part and go directly to the implementation of the solution. The reason for the cause and solution to their communication students is so important is that without the students really know what these things are often not really a practical solution diligently at home.
D. Apply the solution (training). To be effective, you need to do more than "to teach what do, you need to "train" to do. Education 'can be done quickly, but training, which takes time. Think more like a coach sport and less like a schoolmaster and implement solutions, while teaching the guitar (more on that later).
E. Hold your hand. It is not necessary to treat all their students and children (unless they are children), but where education the guitar, it is important to control the level of your students motivated and help keep up. A guitar teacher maintains its poor students highly motivated almost always produce results far greater than a great "technical" teachers who do little or nothing to keep inspired and motivated students – however, it is an area of more teachers guitar does not always do well – because they underestimate importance.
Because students often have multiple problems in their interpretation (common incoherent, weak sense of timing, Excessive tension in the body, hand movements ineffective, the strings too, to mention only one of the most common), and because there is usually multiple causes for each of these problems, the hardest part of teaching the guitar (which refers to solving problems of students in terms fair and break bad habits), is knowing the best "to" address the causes of the problems of a student. The Timing is critical that order.
Many (well intentioned) guitar teachers the mistake of trying to use logic "linear" to help students to break bad habits and overcome challenges. There are many problems with this, the main engines that do not teach, we are teaching "people". Everything we do, and "when" we do has a positive or negative impact on the minds of our students. In theory, it might make sense for a perfect guitar teacher to provide students with the most fundamental problems first. This seems logical, right? Well, all the time are still struggling to maintain sufficient time for students to help them become guitarists who want to be.
Unlike that many guitar teachers think that addressing the most fundamental problems that students have at the beginning (or trying to break bad habits too much at a time) does more harm than good for most students of the guitar. Yes, the problems and bad habits must be treated so that their students achieve their full potential, but too much of this, at the same time, can destroy the will of his students to tolerate frustration natural that comes with learning the guitar.
Each student is different and must have an idea of how tolerance to the student sitting in front of you can manage at present. If you overestimate what the result will likely lead to massive amounts of frustration for the student and can give lessons and conclusions of playing the guitar altogether.
How long it usually takes the guitar student house (for example) to sit or stand for 'straight' position, use the left and right perfect hand position, use of the proposed resolution and collection of articulation, etc. etc., while playing and practice? Yes you can teach in a minute or two, but how long does it that students do not instinctively that all the time on their own without being reminded? (For most students, it takes a long time.)
Is 'Ok' to ensure that students follow the guitar and practice when we know a lot of basic things are wrong and bad habits by allowing them to carry out this way?
Most guitar teachers told me: "No, you can not and then proceed to immediately pay to fix all teachers as soon as possible … guitar others simply do not realize or do not care enough to deal with these things. Imagine the time students keep coming back to guitar lessons, all is good.
The best approach to teaching the guitar is not the case. To be clear, their priority must be to keep her son to return as many lessons as possible – not only because they earn more money this way, but because that if a student withdraws from the lessons, you can not do anything to help. Obviously you have to deal with problems and bad habits when (not to would be the same as if feeding children sweet and never really eaten).
When teaching the guitar to solve a problem, avoid dealing with the "problems" and all their causes at once. Start with the only thing you can do for your child to be easier for him correct. This will help you have confidence that he / she can begin to overcome the problem and in doing so was not very hard to start. Pay attention to how much of this, they think they can handle right now. If it sounds good, then give the order to be fixed.
Despite some problems to play the guitar and bad habits can be very important issues to discuss, try not to make the lesson only to solve problems. Most guitar students need to get an idea of progress and forward Troubleshooting is much progress forward, not always possible to see that even after explaining to them, give them more than they can purge to play and practice. (A little sugar helps the medicine go down more easily)
Test your guitar teaching skills.
