Rumspringa Artist Review

Entirely unique. Completely inspiring. Extremely interesting. “Shak’em Loose Tonight” is nothing like the traditional pop/rock that we’re so used to today. Nothing like it at all, only adding to its genius. They class themselves as an R&B band, and by the way they sound – it is exactly what they are. Traditional R&B (as in rhythm and blues, not urban pop e.g Rihanna) at its best.
The song is soothing to listen to, beginning slowly and picking itself up with a relaxing

drum beat, allowing itself to almost work its way into your room through the speakers without disturbing you. Joey Steven’s voice is subtle, but beautiful, perfectly echoing the style and pace of the musical arrangements throughout. The guitar solo two minutes twenty into such a peaceful song could send you into a dreamy sleep with ease, not through boredom, but through its relaxing, soothing tone. It brings to mind somewhat the sixties hippy style, with all the peace and love slogans and so on. “Shak’em Loose Tonight” is warm, summer music through and through. It’s perfect, no more to it. Then again, I’m not a huge fan of the band name Rumspringa.

It is clear that this band takes the majority of its influence from older blues music, possibly with a pinch of Jack White thrown in for equal measure. Whatever the ingredients, it

pays off, with the final product nothing short of sublime

However, no matter how many times I tell you how good this song is, how relaxing it is, how I prefer it to most modern music, I cannot possibly transfer it’s power into words – it’s better than that. Speechless would describe it well to a certain degree, and the other songs “Birds of Paradise” “Trickle Charge” keep up the brilliance, by bringing new elements into the fold, including a heavier, bluesier, Led Zeppelin inspired sounds and so forth. Music like this should be brought back. Genius like this should be praised. In my opinion – new song, of the year.
