Ben Harper Tickets – On Tour With Relentless 7

Late this April and throughout May, Ben Harper and Relentless 7 are heading out on a tour supporting the latest release, White Lies for Dark Times. The band will visit cities like New Orleans for the Jazz & Heritage Festival as well as Memphis, New York, Washington, Detroit, Boston, Montreal, Chicago, San Francisco and Los Angeles through early June, finishing up at the Bonnaroo Music Festival in Tennessee.

In addition to supporting this studio set, the outfit finds promotion in the latest DVD/CD release Live from the Montreal International Jazz Festival, out in early March from the 2009 festival. The group’s April outings are hailed as the Campus Consciousness Tour, which includes dates throughout the East and Midwest just before the New Orleans Jazz festival. Gearing up for a hefty tour schedule, Ben Harper and crew found commercial exposure as early as March, when they opened up the SXSW Music Festival in Austin, Texas and appeared on Last Call with Carson Daly, The Late Show with David Letterman, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel Live. Though portraying a relatively new combination as Relentless 7 and Ben Harper only formed in 2008, the group’s May debut has already heard mainstream promotion. Both acts are veteran musicians who had sparked a musical romance before the summer of ’08, when they recorded Harper’s “Serve Your Soul” for Both Sides of the Gun in 2006.

The debut from the group brings true American rock back to its roots, much like how the group came together in the first place. Harper and guitarist Jason Mozersky met in the ’90s; Harper, already established, met Mozersky, who was looking for his big break, during a gig in Austin, Texas. When Mozersky played Harper his demo with then band Wan Santo Condo, Harper was “blown away” and helped the group sign a record deal. Though Mozersky’s first outfit didn’t last long, the bond between the two guitar slingers remained. When Harper found a need for a slick guitar player in “Serve Your Soul,” he called up Mozersky, reigniting the passion for true American roots music.

Meanwhile, Harper’s need for a full session band sparked Relentless 7, which in turn fueled the collaboration between Harper and this Texas based group. The two efforts eventually debuted their combined sound during 2008′s Vote for Change Tour before moving into the record studio for White Lies for Dark Times.

Though Relentless 7 hails from Texas, Harper comes from the Golden State, a place recognized for its fusion of musical influences that sparked immediate passion in Harper. Listening to everything from blues to folk, soul and reggae, the Claremont native picked up the guitar as a teen and eventually landed a record deal with Virgin in 1992. Though his sound was relatively an underground mix of flavors for years, Harper earned a mainstream hit in 2000 with “Steal My Kisses,” and he has continued to mix with different musical wavelengths throughout his career, keeping fans on their toes but always intrigued.
