Guitar shredders – beginner after some direction!?
i’ve been playing the guitar on and off for nearly 10 years. right now i’m about as good as i was when i was about 2 years into it… can play all chords easily, some slow lead, all the basic techniques, etc. i can play, but am far from great.
anyway i’m keen to get back into it properly and want to learn to shred (something like yngwie or matt heafy – just really fast stuff). i’ve looked on youtube and google for shredding lessons and what i have found isn’t really that great – mostly just people showing off, or random licks to practice. i’d rather practice scales and stuff for a while at least so i have some kind of foundation.
can anyone recommend the best things i should start with? i’d like to take advice from your personal experience, rather than some random lesson off the internet. thanks!
I’ve played since 1982 and had the same problem. I learned to play scales and how to transpose those scales to every key and I felt like twice the player I was before that. I started with the Blues scale in the key of E. There are five positions or box’s, learn them all so you can play the entire neck. You tube is great if you ask it the right thing.
