Learning About Chords

Before even thinking about starting a tutorial in learning how to play the guitar, there are basic things that you have to keep in mind. Like for example, you need to know what the bits and pieces that comes with the song. The music that comes out of the guitar is made out of notes that when put together forms a melody.

Chords are made of notes, and most songs would require you to know some chords. Basically, chords are just series of notes that are played in unison. By putting notes together, they could sound very melodic when played correctly.

The usual starting points for beginners like you are chords that are easy to play and learn. These chords are easy because they won’t require you to use all of your fingers at the same time. Examples of these chords are A, D, C and G. These chords will only require you to use 3 fingers.

You can make your guitar produce your desired chords and notes by pushing down on the strings at the fret on the guitar neck. Afterward, you can go ahead and strum or pluck the strings located in the front of the hole in the guitar’s body as you continue to push down on the strings. Most beginners usually practice on acoustic guitar in order to master the basics then moves to electric guitar after mastering the basics.

Making the chords sound right is one of the challenges that beginners should master. Pressing down on the strings too hard or too soft can make the sound muffled or distorted. Finding the right balance of pressure is important. Getting used to it may take some time, but with hard work and practice, you can master this in no time.

Learning the proper positioning of your left hand (or right hand if you’re left handed) is also helpful. By doing this, you will lessen the strain on your hand. Many beginners tend to ignore this posture which results to “buzzing” sounds in a guitar, instead of a good tune.

For a start you can try to practice songs that has less chord movements. It is advisable to practice chords that are in the same fret. Many songs are composed this way, and these are the songs which are perfect for beginners. Finally, try to practice while your eyes are closed. This will allow your hands to memorize the chords and how they feel. Most professional guitar players very rarely look at the fret as they play. They will only look at the fret if they have to perform complicated chords just to make sure that their fingers are placed perfectly.
