Do just raw guitar players make it anymore?

A band asked me to come on because they can’t find anybody that’s not braindead from tabs and guitar magazine solos. They were metal but have slimmed down to just the singer/drummer, and a bass player that did mit. I’m just a slob with no direction but what happens next. I’m just a guy with a guitar in a world of faster thanshit robots.

I don’t know…so many people play just the same now. Play the same songs, learn from the same tabs…everyone can do what everyone else can do. It’s so discouraging cause you know that whatever you are learning, there’s loads of people out there who have already mastered it. That’s what I hate about it, but I’m trying really hard to be different with my guitar playing now…
