lacquer sanding for guitar?

hey what would be a good grit that i should use to sand lacquer off my guitar and is there any technique i could use to give the body a smooth finnish
what grit do i need?

if you are trying to refinish the guitar, take down the existing lacquer with 220 grit until you just get to bare wood. use a tack cloth to remove dust. use 400 grit to even out the surface. go to 600 grit if you want it smoother. use a sanding block to keep the flat surfaces level. you will get the smoothest surface with spray lacquer, musical instrument grade.
Hope that helps.
