I want to build my own bass guitar. Help.?

I’ve been playing bass for a while now. After looking at hundreds of different basses, I’ve decided that I want to build my own. My husband is really good with wood and can make the body any way I want it. I already know I want a Dean neck, like the one on my current bass (Dean Zone XM 4 string). From there, it’s all up in the air. I want to do the fretboard inlays and other details myself. My problem is, of course, I’ve never built a guitar before and I don’t know where to get the materials. Any suggestions, tips, ideas…any information at all would be greatly appreciated.

You can get good quality hardware at http://store.guitarfetish.com/
and more iffy things like frets/nuts/inlayblanks and tools from stewmac.com
Most rare wood suppliers will be able to hook you up with woods needed, that you will have to research.
There are also great books on building on Amazon so check those out first thing before you start buying parts. Also remember to get most of the parts together first otherwise you maye have to fix problems later when you commit to a design decision and the part does not work when it arrives. Have fun!
