What are some good beginner guitar exercises?

I have been playing for a year, but I didn’t have much time to practice. Now that I do, I need help improving.

Here is a good site to help you advance. There is lots of stuff here for you to choose at your leisure.

I suggest practicng the 4 fingers and using a 5-note exercise.
Ex…
Play the 3-4-5-6-7th fret using the 1-2-3-4 fingers and sliding with the pinky on the 7th fret.
Then play backwards, 4-3-2-1 and sliding to the 3rd fret using the index fingers.

ALWAYS alternate pick each note without exceptions. Do this exercise on all strings

Another easy one…. using the 3-4-5-6th fret

1-2-1-2-3-2-3-4-3-4-3-2-3-2-1 Do this on all strings.

These 2 exercise is good for developing muscles to the fingers and developing good left and right hand coordination.

One last thing, always keep your fingers very close to the fingerboard and make sure the right-hand is floating over the stings with the palm slightly touching the string. Don’t do like other guitarist who rest their pinky on the pickguard or whatever. It hinders your technique especially when you get to learn to do guitar sweeps.
