Beginner Guitar Lessons Online

If you want to learn how to play the guitar you may not need to look as far as you might think to find help. Professional guitarists and guitar teachers are everywhere and all it takes is a visit to a local music store or a quick look in your local paper to find guitar instructors. You may also be able to find a guitar class at a local university or community college which offers instruction for beginners. There are even many teachers who offer their services to those wanting to take beginner guitar lessons online. Online guitar lessons are growing in popularity and they provide aspiring guitarists with a great, free way to learn how to play the guitar. When learning to play guitar, there are many things that must be taught along with the physical portion of playing. This includes recognizing chords played as well as their formation, progressions and even how to hold and tune your guitar. Beginner guitar lessons are for those who have little to no knowledge of these aspects of playing.

A teacher may assign you easy guitar tabs as a way of practicing if you are using online videos as a way of learning. Guitar tabs are a way of someone writing down how a song is played without having to write out the musical composition. Tabs are a short form of stating the chords used in a song, their progression, if a capo is used as well as how the chords are formed in most cases. Tabs will generally have the words included as a reference so you know where the chord begins and ends in the lyrics of the song. These can be used by beginners or advanced users to learn to play a song.

If you learn how to recognize chords by ear, tabs are really not that helpful to you. Once you learn how to audibly recognize a chord, you can pick it out of hundreds of others by simply hearing it. So when you hear a song on the radio, you should be able to pick out the chords being played in the song. Remember that just because the singer changes key does not mean that a chord change has taken place. It is important to download and use all the supporting information your online teacher gives you, as this will teach you how to read music and gives exercises on how to recognize chords.

Live at Luther College

Live at Luther College

Unplugged and set apart from his bandmates, Dave Matthews is transformed from a fusion rocker to something of a fusion folkie. Indeed, this two-disc, two-man concert recording (cut in Iowa in the winter of 1996 and shelved for nearly three years) posits the South African-born bandleader less as a Blues Traveler fellow traveler than a dexterous, jazz-inflected minstrel in the tradition of Tim and J…

Too Many Songs by Tom Lehrer with Not Enough Drawings by Ronald Searle

Too Many Songs by Tom Lehrer with Not Enough Drawings by Ronald Searle

The subversive songs of Tom Lehrer, the sardonic piano-wielding fugitive from Harvard, have corrupted generations of Americans since he first began recording and performing in the 1950s.
