Chances of getting into Columbia University?
- My GPA really isn’t that good (4.2 – 4.3 weighted tops as of junior year)
- I haven’t taken the SAT yet but I’ve scored consistently well on practice tests directly from collegeboard and Barron’s (first 2 collegeboard and last barrons, 2220, 2170, 2310)
- County Chorus, Honors Chorus, Regional Chorus, Tenor Captain at my School, Long guitar background with a history of performances all over New Jersey and New York
- Winner of Scholastic Writing Competition 2008 (Gold Key, Regional)
- Inducted into National Scholars Association
If my chances are super slim and this is just ludicrous, please let me know of some other universities I could apply to. I was thinking of University of Michigan.
Sure, you have a shot. But you always, ALWAYS should apply to a broad range of schools, no matter how amazing your stats are. Schools like Columbia reject thousands of amazingly-qualified applicants (perfect grades, perfect SATs, etc) just because there simply isn’t enough room in the class for all of them, so it’s never a sure thing. Definitely apply, but apply to other schools as well (and make sure they’re ones you’d legitimately be happy at….there are a lot of great schools out there).
