Were Gibson guitars this expensive in the past ?

I was wondering this because today in age i see that Gibson guitars like the explorer, the SG,and Les Paul are owned by rock legends from like the 80′s or probably earlier and nothing else.So were these guitars cheap in the past and then all of sudden Gibson got their name popular and then dump huge prices on the people of todays generation ?

Not really! I remember when I bought mine special sg it was not that expensive. Now, that he died maybe the gibson guitars will go up more in value. You can check http://www.gibsonsgstore.com for the prices.
