does anyone know about how much a 1962 gibson 330 td guitar is worth?
my dad cant like rlly find it anywhere on the internet and he doesnt kno if the guy tht sold it to him screwed him or not? so an estimate plz?
I’m afraid it’s very hard to tell the real value on older instruments without having the guitar in your hand – plus having quite a lot of knowledge about that particular brand.
Please also be aware that there’s a lot of fraud regading older guitars, Gibson and Fender in particlar.
You can find heaps of information about the 330TD on the net – Just type Gibson 330TD into Google. There are in fact thousands of pages on the subject. You’ll find forums, vintage listings, youtube videos an much more.
As for the 330 model, it is not hugely collectible. The most sought after of these is a perfect condition – all original 59 – 62 330TD with dot neck inlays. In 62 Gibson started making them with block neck inlays and metal pickup covers.
The main reason the 330 is not as valuable as a 335, is that the latter has humbuckers – the 330s have single coils (P90s).
If it is in good condition, it is indeed a great guitar! They are hollow body instruments, so they can be a little fragile… You will need to take into consideration the price your dad paid versus the condition and value of the guitar before one can say anything valid about your question. And like I said, the exact value depends on condition, any repairs, if it is the genuine item etc.
You can get a better feel for the pricing of these instruments by checking out ebay.com – A guess is that street value can be anything from $1,500-2,000 and upwards to five or six grand, perhaps even more if it is in superb, original condition.
The specialized vintage dealers can give you a better estimate, but they will need to see the instrument first hand.
