Where can I purchase a Wireless 1/4 Instrument Cable?
I was wondering whether or not these exist and if so, where I might be able to find one. I have an Ibanez Electric Guitar and was hoping to be able to play my guitar wirelessly and be able to still have the sound come out of my amplifier….
I have one (actually, 2) made by Telex. Shure, Audio Technica, AKG, DR and other manufacturers make them. They work the same way a wireless clip-on mic works but instead of the mic, the 1/4″ plug is at the end of the cable that is connected to a body pack. The body pack transmits wirelessly to a base station. The base station plugs into the amp.
They work great – when they are UHF and full diversity. Even the VHF units are OK. If you get the cheap ones in the shared bands (900 MHz, 2.4 GHz, 5.8 GHz, you are in the same frequencies as garage door openers, home cordless phones (not cell phones) wifi networks and lots of others stuff – and when you get interference, there is nothing you can do about that.
There used to be a smaller “bug” with the 1/4″ plug and I think a Blue Tooth transmittier sending to a base station connected to the amp – but I lost track of those.
