Learn Electric Guitar Lesson – How To Expand Your Scales To Make It More Interesting

Hi there dudes! We’re here at Learn electric guitar lesson. I’m going to discuss how to turn your regular scale into extraordinary meaningful scales by creating every possibilities fretboard position in the neck.

Learn new scales

Instead of playing your favorite scale learn new scales and modes or even exotic scales. Don’t limit yourself into a same old scale pattern and don’t stick yourself into a single box, try to connect the notes into three to four octaves and it should be learn on all keys. You can also try a single string scale, two string scales, or three string scale run up and down the neck.

Expanding the scales

  1. A minor pentatonic – everybody loves this scale, expanding this scale makes it more room for your playing. After you master this try to shift into another key let say in B and so on.

e————————————————————————8—-10——-
B———————————————————–8—-10——————–
G—————————————-5—-7—-9———————————-
D—————————–5—-7—————————————————-
A————3—-5—-7————————————————————–
E——5———————————————————————————

  1. B Phrygian mode (same as natural E minor scale). After you play it in descending order try to play it in Ascending then combined it. Again don’t limit yourself into this try to shift into another key let say in C# or D.

e—————————————————————————————
B—————————————————————————————
G—————————————————————————————
D—————————————–7—9—10———————————
A————————7—-9—10————————————————-
E——7—-8—-10——————————————————————

e—————————————————————————————

D————————9—10—12———————————————–
A—–9—10—12——————————————————————-
E————————————————————————————–

e————————————————–12—-14—-15——————
B—————————–12—13—15—————————————–
G———11—12—14————————————————————-
D————————————————————————————–
A————————————————————————————–
E————————————————————————————–

  1. A minor scale in a single string with open string. After you master this Try to play it backward. And also you can play it in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th string. You can also try it any scale in different keys.

e—–0—-2—-3—-0—-3—-5—–0—-5—-7—-0—-7—-8——————
B—————————————————————————————-
G—————————————————————————————-
D—————————————————————————————-
A—————————————————————————————-
E—————————————————————————————-

e——0—–8—–10—-0—-10—-12—-0—-12—-13—-0—–13—-15—-
B—————————————————————————————-
G—————————————————————————————-
D—————————————————————————————-
A—————————————————————————————-
E—————————————————————————————–

These are just examples. Again, like what I said don’t limit yourself on this try to explore something. Be creative and make your own pattern the choice is yours.

That’s all dude! Start practicing and burn the fretbord. Have fun while learning.
