Electric Acoustic

Should You Learn Guitar On An Electric or Acoustic?
Guitar is a unique instrument in that it can be used to play an incredibly broad number of styles in the hands of the right person. When starting out, however, one has to learn the basics much like is the case in any skill. One of the first questions you will be confronted on is whether you should learn on an electric or acoustic guitar?
Picking between an electric and acoustic is very much a matter of taste. The first thing to understand is you can learn on both guitars and be just fine. Of the choices, however, I would ditch the basic acoustic guitar and replace it with a classical guitar. Why? Well, a metal string acoustic guitar is not very forgiving in my opinion and your enthusiasm for playing can be ruined while you wait for your fingers to get used to the abuse. A classic guitar is strung with nylon. While many will disagree, I found the large neck and nylon strings gave me more room for error. Again, a personal preference.
What about the electric guitar? If the choice is between classic and electric, what does the electric have going for it? Be ready to be surprised. The average electric guitar is very easy to play. The body of the guitar is smaller and the neck is as well. This makes playing notes and scales much easier than with a traditional acoustic guitar or even a classic version.
So, what should you pick? Well, the winner in my mind is the electric guitar by far. It is simply easier to play. This is very important. We all need positive feedback when doing something. Playing a guitar is a blast, but only if you can actually play something. It is a kin to surfing. If you fall of the board every time before standing up, you are going to get frustrated and sick of it. The same goes with playing guitar. You want something that is going to allow you to play actual songs with an honest effort. The electric guitar is clearly the choice.
A quick word of caution about buying your first electric guitar. Go cheap! You don’t need the $5,000 model. You need the $299 package that comes with the guitar and little amp. There is no point in buying a Lamborghini before you know how to drive. The same goes with guitars.
