whats the difference between a folk acoustic guitar and a cutaway acoustic guitar?

i dont really know if these are types of guitars so please help! im looking to find a guitar to learn how to play, i want a good one but not too pricey. also if there is any other kind that i might want please let me know! thank you!
oh also, would i want an electric/acoustic guitar?
any particular brand that is better?

Folk guitar is not a specific type of guitar as per se. Any steel string guitar can be a “folk guitar”. However, the term has somehow come to be synonym (for those who don’t know any better) for smaller bodied acoustic steel string guitars.

In reality, folk guitar is a style of playing on steel stringed guitars. And for this kind of playing, some performers prefer somewhat smaller bodied guitars with lighter strings (or even silk and steel strings).

A cut away is built on some instruments to ease the access to the upper frets/part of the neck.

Your best bet is to visit a well equipped dealer and try out as many different instruments as possible. Various brands, styles, sizes, neck widths, neck dimension (bulk) scales (length of the vibrating string), type of strings (lighter or heavier) etc.

If you don’t find a ready made acoustic electric that suites you, you can always retrofit a good pickup system to any acoustic guitar later on.

Takamine build some really great guitars for the money. Very sturdy also. In the mid to upper end you can’t go much wrong with Martin and Taylor.

That said, any guitar with a solid top that is well put together and professionally set up will be suitable. But, like in anything else, you kind of get what you pay for in the long run
