Delicious yet sturdy cake recipe for ambitious design?
I am making an ambitious cake design for my boyfriend’s birthday. It’s his 20th birthday and he loves his guitars so im making my own version of a guitar cake using ace of cake’s vertical guitar cake as a template. It is a life-sized acoustic guitar cake that will be put up vertically on a guitar stand after its made and settles.
For this design im scared of using the boxed mixes because they are SO moist, too moist, and fall apart easily if made in large quantities. I would GREATLY appreciate a delicious yet more sturdy chocolate cake recipe if anyone has one to contribute! Bonus points to a good chocolate butter cream recipe to add! Thank you!
You need to use a homemade pound cake recipe so it will be sturdy you will also need to put wooden dowel rods thru the cake so it can stand up probably 3 of them to give it strength you can find wooden dowel rods at the hardware store,cut to size a little smaller than the length of cake wash in soapy water rinse and dry well for pound cake recipes go to cooks.com and type in pound cake also chocolate frosting another good site is allrecipes.com at the allrecipes.com website they have reviews and ratings for all the recipes choose a recipe that calls for real butter Here is a recipe I use ~2 sticks butter,1 stick margarine 8 oz cream cheese 3/4 cup warm water( I like to use 7 up soda room temperature) 33/4 cups flour 6 eggs,2 teaspoons vanilla or 1 t vanilla and 1 t almond flavoring ~Cream butter ,cream cheese and sugar well slowly add flour and water ,add eggs one at a time beating well add flavoring pour into well greased pans and bake 325 degrees about 11/2 hours on till toothpick comes out clean Any good buttercream recipe will do just add a few spoons of cocoa when mixing for chocolate. I like to add almond flavoring instead of vanilla and sometimes also add a teaspoon of instant coffee to my chocolate butter cream but you can use just vanilla… still delicious!
