Any Safe ways to customize my acoustic guitar?

yeah I want to make my acoustic look more distinct and fit my style (drawing style and playing style) I like to see any ways to do this without ruining the guitar or giving it an off sound.

so yeah I don’t want to like sand it down and spray paint it. I want to make it a work of art that works basically. so anything that will changed it’s appearance and keep it’s shiny finish.

I like to use something that will make detail lines (so yeah a sharpie pen won’t work with me)

ps please don’t suggest I carve it, use tape, or make a digital tattoo copy of may artwork to put on it. I don’t want my icon on my guitar(I drew my own icon) I want to make an original thing for my guitar’s look.

please help me with some answers that I can do myself and not have to go to hire people to do for me (like a kind of paint or pen that I can use)

Without sanding down the finish on your guitar, no paint or ink or anything of the like will have any permanence. The smoothness of that shiny finish will prevent it from sticking very well.

When your guitar was being made and about to be painted, it was sanded smooth and keep in mind that wood is porous. It was then sprayed with a sealer coat and allowed to dry. That sealer coat was then sanded to give it a “rough” surface for the final finish to adhere to. This finish was further sanded with finer grit paper and buffed to a shine. The whole intention of this is to protect your guitar from foreign objects (like dust and whatever weird substances you and your guitar come across) from ruining the sound of the wood. That is why it will not work very well.

The best way to go about this (and not have it wear off over time) is to learn how to use an airbrush properly. And the best place for that (sorry) is between the sealer coat and the final coat. To do this you would use a paint stripper (definitely not sand it down; by the time it’s finished/painted, your guitar has already seen enough sandpaper) to remove the finish and start from scratch, doing the sealer coat, then your airbrushed design, then (while your design is still wet, allowing an hour for it to set but not allowing it to cure completely) the final coats of clear finish. A lot of work, and not the answer you’re looking for.

Fingernail polish would stick fairly well, although I doubt that has the detail you’re looking for. Believe it or not, it’s used to do touch ups and to fill in cracks all the time.

All in all, use what you want, but if your guitar gets any use it’ll wear off eventually.

As far as the sound it concerned, unless you’ve got a seriously high end guitar, there’s not much you can do to affect the sound too much… Barely noticeable, except maybe to a very sharp trained ear, who probably wouldn’t care too much for the quality of the sound anyway. And if you DO have a seriously high end guitar, I wouldn’t alter the finish in any way besides the way I explained, if that. High quality guitars often use nitrocellulose lacquer, a finish which improves sound with age, and so is rarely messed with.
