Acoustic guitar question? Truss Rod Adjustment?

I had a quick question about adjusting the truss rod on my acoustic. Is it better to adjust the truss rod while the strings are in tune? or should I loosen the strings before adjusting to prevent the strings from snapping?

You’ll need to loosen those strings when you turn the nut on the truss rod…you risk stripping it out.

Just a few bits of advice in case you haven’t heard the all ready:

Don’t force turning the rod…you risk breaking it and making your guitar worthless. I have a piece of trash Fender made in Korea with this problem…argh.

Take a sharpie pen and put a mark on the nut. This will make a good reference point as to where you started before turning it. Turn only 1/8 of a turn at a time, tune, and check the string height. If things get out of hand, just go back to your reference point made with the pen. Don’t go nuts with turning…again you risk breaking the rod and having a nice guitar doorstop.

If you are careful, you stand to save yourself some cash versus taking it in someplace to have it done.
