Acoustic Classical

Big difference in sound between acoustic & classical guitar?
I know all about the physical differences and was wondering if there really is a big sound difference between both? If yes, could you please try to describe it if possible? Which do you prefer?
Thanks
There is an enormous difference in sound. The classical nylon string guitar has a rich full…but mellow…. sound. Good ones almost have piano-like overtones to the notes. Even plucking a single note will produce a full sound.
A steel stringed guitar has much more twang. Single notes, especially on the high strings don’t sound as full. That’s not meant to be a bad quality…just different. Steel strings give more punch.
Each guitar has it’s own specific uses. While a steel string would sound weak playing classical music, it excels at rock, pop, blues, etc. The reverse is also true. A classical guitar would sound all wrong if you tried to play rock-a-billy on it…..but sounds sweet playing classical or flamenco music. I have no definite preference: When I listen to classical guitar playing the music it’s designed for, it’s the sweetest sound. Then I play my Martin D-35 with new strings, and I’m in love with that.
